The india story

During winter 2012 i got very inspired on a trip to India. Like so inspired i was bursting, so inspired my fingers were sore from handsewing on the beaches and my sketchbook was overflowing and smelling of curry and my camera broken from working so hard.

I spent more hours on this costume than i have on any single project since i can remember. Collecting sari "edging" from each town and market we visited and befriending tailors on little streets to help find pins or let me use their machines. i unrolled this project at each backpacker stop and with each stitch thought long and hard about who i was making it for. In theory i was mending a friendship but in practice i was taking lots of pieces of an amazing country and forming it into something travel sized, that i hoped would be worn on the other side of the world.
