Wings and things

New Brighton Mural for a good friend. Having escaped the festival grips of Boomtown fair, i concentrated on painting pretty things, swimming in rivers and doing yoga in the sun. AH RELAX!!!

BOOMTOWN

Painted a few signs and things during the build of Downtown BOOMTOWN FAIR. Making things look sketchy old and gross was not my thing. so  left before the party, as i was worried it was going to be sketchy, young, and gross.

Also helped to decorate this BEAST of a main stage!!! shame i missed it looking like this!

tropicana triptych

First canvas commission for a long while.. seems to be an annual occurrance that whilst the sun is shining outside and the dog is looking at  me with "park??" eyes, i'm inside battling with motivation and finding time to do things like clean the inside of the bin and the bottom of the fridge, when really i should be very excited to be working on such a perfect piece for my style!!!!

Hummingbird triptych for lisa.

Shangri-la heaven and hell

A lot can happen in 3 weeks on Worthy Farm!
This year i had the privilege to join the Shangri-la field in their epic building of temporary heaven and hell. Corporate hell was the inspiration for this signpost.

Font sketching, and working with carpenters and lighting specialists  to make these signs:

Font sketching and working with stone carvers to make these doorways:

Inside the heaven Dome it was n entirely different world. Fluffy and spacious. signage here too:

The sun shone hard throughout the build and the crew were an amazing bunch. All well experienced in the ways of the south-east corner and extraordinarily dedidated craftspeople!!!
more weird and wonderful festival photography here.

The india story

During winter 2012 i got very inspired on a trip to India. Like so inspired i was bursting, so inspired my fingers were sore from handsewing on the beaches and my sketchbook was overflowing and smelling of curry and my camera broken from working so hard.

I spent more hours on this costume than i have on any single project since i can remember. Collecting sari "edging" from each town and market we visited and befriending tailors on little streets to help find pins or let me use their machines. i unrolled this project at each backpacker stop and with each stitch thought long and hard about who i was making it for. In theory i was mending a friendship but in practice i was taking lots of pieces of an amazing country and forming it into something travel sized, that i hoped would be worn on the other side of the world.

Brighton skyline.

The office at 15 Gifts.com , has had a proper Faye Suzannah hit of turquoise over the last month!
Had a great time researching and sketching for this mural, i've been in Brighton for 2 years and have managed not to notice some of the weird and wonderful architecture around the place.!
I got a bit grumpy about having to draw the Pavillion and Pier just like every other artist .. but in the end, the beauty of the peace statue and the Hanover streets  have made me see my seaside residence in a new light.

It has been a battle of fine lines and mouldy walls but i'm really happy with this end result.!!

whale of a time on Bond St

The Whale murals of previous years painted by the wonderful John Ives inspired me to get involved with Whalefest 2014. Is has been a great chance for me to showcase my mural work in the centre of Brighton. and all for a VERY good cause.!
The event runs 14th/15th of March in Brighton and is being kicked off with the "release" of a lifesized orca whale model into the ocean just next to palace pier. Exciting! see you there

Stoked to use this opportunity to paint Northwest Native american designs!!

All volunteers, including random members of Brighton public, have been amazing fun to work with.!
